The pedagogical significance of interactive methods in developing communicative competence in english language classes

Аннотация
The development of communicative competence has become one of the
central objectives of modern English language teaching. In contemporary education, the
ability to use language effectively in real-life situations is considered more important than
the mechanical memorization of grammar rules or isolated vocabulary items. This article
investigates the pedagogical significance of interactive methods in developing students’
communicative competence in English language classes. The study discusses the
theoretical foundations of communicative competence, the role of learner-centered
instruction, and the effectiveness of interactive methods such as pair work, group
discussion, role-play, problem-solving tasks, project-based learning, debates, and
communicative games, methods support linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and
strategic components of communicative competence. The results show that interactive
methods increase students’ motivation, reduce psychological barriers, improve fluency,
encourage cooperation, and create conditions for meaningful communication. A small
analytical table is included in the results section to demonstrate the pedagogical outcomes
of selected interactive methods. The article concludes that the systematic use of
interactive methods in English lessons is an important pedagogical factor in preparing
students for effective oral and written communication in academic, professional, and
social contexts.
